Aidan Laughery: Homegrown Talent
Running back Aidan Laughery is about as local as it gets, now in his fifth year at Illinois. He leads the running backs in career numbers:

He kicked off last season with 101 yards and two scores against Western Illinois, then closed out with 77 yards in the Music City Bowl win over Tennessee. Not bad at all.
Jake Renfro: The Anchor
Jake Renfro holds things down at center. He transferred in with a ton of experience—38 career games, 36 starts between Cincinnati and Wisconsin.

Scott made the All-Big Ten First Team in 2024 and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. For 2026, he’s on Athlon’s All-Big Ten Third Team list. If he stays healthy, watch out.
