The transfer portal’s become a wild, ever-shifting part of college football. Players jump in and out, all looking for better fits or more playing time.

NC State saw a ton of movement this offseason—16 scholarship players out, 13 new faces in. Here’s a closer look at where those Wolfpack departures landed and what they might do next.

NC State’s Transfer Portal Departures: A Comprehensive Overview

Plenty of players decided to move on from NC State football this offseason. Let’s see where everyone ended up and what could be in store for them at their new schools.

Miami Welcomes Cyrus Bonner

Cyrus Bonner entered the portal on April 21 and didn’t wait long before choosing Miami. In 18 games over two seasons at NC State, he picked up 59 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and a sack.

Miami’s likely to use him in a rotational role, which is familiar territory for him.

Indiana Secures Devon Boykin

Devon Boykin missed the 2024 season with a knee injury, then hit the transfer portal in early January. Nine days later, he picked Indiana.

Boykin played 45 games over five years in NC State’s secondary, tallying 117 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 4 picks. Indiana looks ready to plug him in as a starter.

Louisville Gains Darryl Collins

Darryl Collins worked his way into a starter’s job at NC State, but by mid-April, he’d committed to Louisville. In two seasons, Collins caught 38 passes for 526 yards and 4 touchdowns.

He’s expected to start at outside receiver for the Cardinals.

Jalen Cooley Joins LSU

Jalen Cooley made his mark at nickel for NC State, racking up 39 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, 3 interceptions, 9 passes defended, and 2 forced fumbles in 13 games. With a new defensive scheme coming in, Cooley entered the portal and chose LSU.

He’ll be in the mix for a starting safety job with the Tigers.

Concepcion Heads to Texas A&M

Concepcion turned heads as one of the most exciting players in the country during 2023. He left after his sophomore season, bringing with him 124 receptions, 1,299 yards, and 16 touchdowns from two years at NC State.

He picked Texas A&M and looks set to start at receiver for the Aggies.

South Carolina Welcomes Cisse

Cisse entered the portal at the last minute of the winter window, then quickly committed to South Carolina. Over two seasons, he played 22 games for NC State, posting 38 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a pick, and 6 passes defended.

He’s expected to start at outside corner for the Gamecocks.

Fitzgerald Joins USC

Former JUCO transfer Fitzgerald used the “Diego Pavia rule” to enter the portal. He played 26 games at NC State, collecting 97 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 5 interceptions.

He landed at USC, where he’s expected to strengthen the Trojans’ defensive backfield and likely start in 2025.

Hibbler Returns to Mississippi State

Hibbler was NC State’s main pass rush specialist in 2023, finishing with 7 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 17 games. After redshirting, he entered the portal and headed home to Mississippi State.

He’ll probably rotate in on the Bulldogs’ defensive line.

Hill Competes for Starting Spot

Hill spent five years with the Wolfpack, mostly playing special teams and a few offensive line snaps—33 in total. Off the field, he led Pack United as president.

This fall, he’ll compete for a starting offensive line spot in his final season.

Matan Moves to Montana

Matan appeared in 37 games over five years, mostly on special teams. Looking for more action, he took his last year of eligibility to Montana.

He wants to earn some playing time this fall.

Martin Heads to West Virginia

Martin redshirted last season, then entered the portal and went back to his home state, West Virginia. He’s hoping to make an impact as his college career keeps rolling.

Obasuyi Joins Georgia State

Obasuyi left NC State in the winter portal window and chose Georgia State. He didn’t see the field in Raleigh, but now he’ll try to carve out a role as a redshirt sophomore.

Poole Transfers to Nicholls

Poole did a bit of everything at NC State—16 tackles, a touchdown, and 38 games under his belt. After entering the portal, he committed to Nicholls.

He’s hoping to make a real difference there.

Raphael Lands at Cal

Raphael left after spring practice and quickly picked Cal. In two years at NC State, he ran for 734 yards and 4 touchdowns.

With Cal’s running back room looking thin, he’s expected to start for the Golden Bears.

Vereen Transfers to UConn

Vereen broke out with four catches for 65 yards against Notre Dame in 2023 but couldn’t find steady playing time. He transferred to UConn.

He’ll push for a starting job with the Huskies this season.

Wright Joins Alabama State

After leaving NC State, Wright became the only player to transfer twice. He spent spring football with Arkansas State, then jumped back into the portal.

Now he’s at Alabama State. Coaches expect him to break into the two-deep on defense, and honestly, that wouldn’t surprise me.
