Tyler O’Neill’s Troubled Tenure in Baltimore
Tyler O’Neill hasn’t exactly thrived with the Orioles since he signed that three-year, $49.5 million deal last winter. Injuries have dogged him, and it’s clear his bat has suffered too.
This is already his second stint on the injured list this season; he previously missed time with neck soreness. That’s probably a big reason for his .188/.280/.325 slash line and just two home runs in 93 plate appearances.

O’Neill’s injury history is no secret at this point. In eight MLB seasons, he’s played more than 100 games only twice.
One of those rare healthy years came in 2024 with the Red Sox, when he managed 113 games and hit 31 home runs with a .241/.336/.511 line. Even then, he still hit the injured list three times, though he didn’t miss much time each stint.
The Orioles invested a lot in O’Neill, making him their priciest offseason signing. His struggle to stay healthy has definitely stung.
Kyle Gibson’s Struggles on the Mound
Kyle Gibson, another offseason pickup, hasn’t worked out either. The Orioles signed him to a one-year, $5.25 million contract just before Opening Day.
He missed Spring Training, started the year in the minors to get ready, but things haven’t clicked. In four starts and 12 1/3 innings, he’s racked up a brutal 16.78 ERA.
One outing really hurt—he gave up six runs in just two-thirds of an inning. That kind of performance is tough to watch, honestly.

Now that he’s been designated for assignment, he could go to Triple-A and try to work things out. He could also choose free agency, thanks to his MLB service time.
New Faces: Dylan Carlson and Kade Strowd
The Orioles have brought up Dylan Carlson and Kade Strowd from Triple-A, hoping for a little spark. Carlson should help the outfield, while Strowd gets his first shot at the big leagues.
