The Springfield College football team, led by longtime head coach Mike Cerasuolo, just dropped its 2026 schedule. If you’re a fan, you might want to buckle up—this season’s shaping up to be a wild ride, with tough games both in and out of New England.
After a strong 2025 run, there’s a lot of buzz about what’s next. The full schedule is up now on the Springfield College Athletics website.
Season Opener: The Pynchon SAW Game
Springfield opens the 2026 season with the 13th annual Pynchon SAW Game. This one’s always special, honoring William Pynchon, the city’s founder.
“SAW” stands for Springfield And Western New England, the two schools facing off. Mark your calendar: September 4 at 7:00 pm.
Springfield and the Golden Bears are tied 6-6 in their all-time series, so this year’s opener could tip the balance. Last season’s 23-22 loss is still fresh—maybe a little too fresh.
Key Early Season Matchups
After the opener, Springfield heads to Husson University on September 12. That early away game could set the tone for the rest of the season.
They’re back home September 19 to host UW-Platteville at noon on Stagg Field. The Pioneers finished the 2025 season ranked tenth nationally and made it to the NCAA round of 16, so, yeah, this one’s got some weight to it.
NEWMAC Conference Play
Conference play kicks off against MIT on September 26 at 3:00 pm. Springfield enters as the five-time defending league champs.
They’ve rattled off 33 straight NEWMAC wins since 2022. That’s a streak you just don’t see every day.
October Road Challenges
October’s looking rough—Springfield hits the road for a stretch. Four of their last six games are away from Alden Street.
It’s a test of grit and flexibility, honestly. Can they keep up the pace?
Homecoming and Senior Day Highlights
Homecoming is set for October 17 at noon against WPI. Always a big day—alumni, fans, the whole crew comes out.
Senior day is November 7, when Norwich University visits. It’s a time to honor the seniors and all they’ve put in.
Final Road Games
The last stretch includes big road games: Merchant Marine on October 24, Coast Guard on October 31, and SUNY Maritime on November 14.
These matchups could decide how the postseason shakes out. No pressure, right?
Recap of the 2025 Season
Springfield’s coming off a 9-3 overall record, and they went 7-0 in conference play last year. Coach Cerasuolo picked up NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors again.
They snagged their fifth straight NEWMAC title and even made some noise in the NCAA tournament—taking down Cortland before running into Johns Hopkins.
Coach Cerasuolo’s Impact
Since 2017, Springfield’s gone 50-4 against conference teams. That’s a .926 winning percentage, which is just wild.
Overall, Cerasuolo’s record sits at 70-21. The guy knows how to win, plain and simple. He’s got a knack for getting the best out of his players.
