The summer weather isn’t the only thing heating up across the country. Action on the recruiting trail is picking up as college football programs prepare for some of the most important months of the year.
No games are going to be played in May and June. However, teams have a real shot to set up future wins by stacking up their recruiting classes now.
As official visits kick off, a blue-chip running back isn’t waiting any longer to make a decision. According to 247Sports’ Benjamin Wolk, four-star running back Andrew Beard will announce his commitment on Friday, May 8.
Beard is set to choose between Clemson, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee at 4:00 p.m. ET. That’s a big moment for all four programs.
The Contenders for Andrew Beard
Andrew Beard, a rising senior at Prince Avenue Christian School, has narrowed his choices to four powerhouse programs: Clemson, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Each school left a strong impression on Beard, who visited all four campuses at least once this offseason.
He even made two trips each to Florida, Clemson, and Georgia. That says a lot about where his head might be at.
Florida Gators
Florida might be the program to watch right now. Under new head coach Jon Sumrall, the Gators have built up some real momentum on the trail.
Sumrall has the Gators working with a top-10 class, adding nine verbal commitments since April began. Florida’s landed some impressive recruits lately, like five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, four-star offensive tackle Elijah Hutcheson, and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.
Bringing Beard into the fold would show Sumrall can hang in the SEC. It’d be another statement win for the new staff.
Clemson Tigers
Clemson has long been a powerhouse in college football, especially when it comes to recruiting and player development. The Tigers have produced top-tier talent year after year.
Adding a player like Beard would only bolster their already impressive roster. Clemson’s coaching staff and that winning culture could weigh heavily in Beard’s decision.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia, another SEC giant, has also been a force on the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs have a reputation for developing elite running backs, which could be a major draw for Beard.
With two visits to Athens, it’s clear Georgia made a strong impression. Their recent success and ability to compete for national championships make them a tempting option.
Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee is looking to make a splash in recruiting under their current coaching regime. The Volunteers have worked hard to re-establish themselves as a top SEC program.
Landing Beard would be a big step in that direction. Tennessee’s passionate fan base and the chance to be a key part of their resurgence could be pretty appealing to Beard.
Andrew Beard’s Impressive High School Career
During his junior season at Prince Avenue Christian School, Beard rushed 165 times for 1,292 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 450 yards and 5 more scores.
He returned a kickoff for a touchdown, too. Beard hit 100+ rushing yards in six games.
He posted a season-high 19 carries for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns in a narrow 31-28 loss to Hart County High School on October 26. The year before, Beard was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American after scoring 28 total touchdowns.
As a freshman, he earned all-regional honors at defensive back, showing off his versatility. Not many guys can do that.
What Makes Andrew Beard a Top Prospect?
The 5-foot-9, 197-pound running back is ranked as the No. 165 overall prospect, the No. 8 RB, and the No. 14 recruit in Georgia for the 2027 class, per 247Sports. Beard’s speed, agility, and versatility make him a highly sought-after recruit.
He can contribute in a bunch of ways—rushing, receiving, and even special teams. That kind of all-around ability sets him apart from other players.
Speed and Agility
Beard’s speed and agility stand out every time he takes the field. He breaks away from defenders and makes big plays look easy.
His quickness helps him find gaps in the defense, making him a threat whenever he touches the ball. Defenses have to respect that.
Versatility
One of Beard’s best traits is his versatility. He’s proven himself as a capable receiver out of the backfield, giving his game another dimension.
His experience at defensive back also shows off his football IQ and understanding of the game. That’s rare for a running back.
The Decision
As the clock ticks down to Andrew Beard’s announcement on May 8, anticipation keeps building. Each of the four finalist programs—Clemson, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee—offers Beard unique advantages and opportunities.
Impact on Florida
If Beard picks Florida, it’ll be a major win for Jon Sumrall and his staff. Adding Beard to an already strong recruiting class would lock the Gators in as a top contender in the SEC.
Beard’s dynamic playmaking would be a huge asset to Florida’s offense. He could make an immediate impact.
Impact on Clemson
Clemson would benefit a lot from adding Beard to their roster. His versatility and skill set fit well with the Tigers’ offensive scheme.
Beard’s commitment would send a message to other recruits about Clemson’s continued dominance. That’s the kind of move that keeps the Tigers in the national conversation.
Impact on Georgia
For Georgia, landing Beard would continue their tradition of recruiting and developing elite running backs. His talent would complement the Bulldogs’ already loaded offense.
His commitment would reinforce Georgia’s status as a top destination for high-level recruits. It’s a move that could pay off for years to come.
Impact on Tennessee
Tennessee could get a real boost if they lock in a commitment from Beard. The Volunteers want to climb back to the top of the SEC.
Adding a player like Beard would be a big step in that direction. His playmaking and versatility would give Tennessee’s rebuilding efforts a real shot in the arm.
As the countdown to Andrew Beard’s decision keeps ticking, excitement just keeps building among college football fans and programs. The team that lands him will get a special talent, no question.
