Dominiq Ponder was behind the wheel of a 2023 Tesla Model 3, heading west on Baseline Road. At some point, he lost control, and the car crossed into the eastbound lane.
The vehicle smashed through a guardrail and hit an electrical line pole. After that, it rolled down an embankment and caught fire.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, no other vehicles were involved. Ponder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dominiq Ponder’s Football Journey
Ponder grew up in Opa Locka, Florida and started his college football career at Bethune-Cookman in 2023. He played in two games that year, then took a redshirt season.
He transferred to Colorado in 2024 but didn’t get on the field that first season in Boulder. Ponder finally made his collegiate debut in a 2025 game against Arizona.
The following week, he saw a few snaps on special teams during the Buffaloes’ matchup with West Virginia. It wasn’t much, but it was a start—and for a lot of players, that’s everything.
